Barley is a charming 56’ traditional narrowboat built in 1997 by Stenson and fitted out by Midland Canal Centre. She has all the character you would expect of a traditional style boat with a delightful boatmans cabin, a walk through engine room housing the impressive Russell Newbery engine and speed wheel controls.
She is fitted out throughout in Oak faced ply with luxury vinyl planks providing the flooring. The cosy saloon is entered from the good size well deck (with cratch cover over and cushioned locker seats). This contains a couple of comfortable chairs, the Villager Puffin solid fuel stove and plenty of storage. There is also a demountable table. The galley is a walk through arrangement with attractive green patterned worktops. There is a large sink/drainer and- cooking facilities are provided by the Vanette GG oven, grill and 4 burner gas hob. The fridge is a Shoreline 12v with ice box. There is also plenty of storage in the form of cupboards, drawers and shelving. A houdini hatch over- head lets in additional light and air.
Next comes the 9’ bedroom with a fixed 6’3” x 4’ double. There is a good size wardrobe at the foot of the bed and two large drawers underneath. The bathroom is port side off corridor with a sliding door. The shower sits over the hip bath with attractively tiled surround and shower curtain. The loo is a Thetford Porta Potti Qube (there is also a spare Kampa PortaFlush on board for emergencies!) and the ceramic basin sits over a vanity unit. The Zanussi Washer/Dryer is also accessed from here.
Next comes the engine room with the Russell Newbery engine (last serviced in January 2021) and the diesel powered Zeise generator. There are side hatches port and starboard (both with perspex screens) and a pigeon box overhead. Finally comes the lovely boatmans cabin with a convertible cross bed, a Premier range and plenty of roses and castle style decoration and storage.
Heating comes from the Eberspacher diesel central heating system (new in 2016), hot water via the engine, Eberspacher or immersion. She has an Aquafax bowthruster, a Crowther propeller, a Victron 1500w inverter/charger and a Galvanic Isolator. There is a also hull survey from 2017 (available for viewing in the office).
