A truly brilliant boat!
We will be very sad to leave Helios, but we've now found our perfect family sized widebeam, opening up the opportunity for you to come and enjoy an idyllic life on the water with this exceptional vessel.
“HELIOS” is a 57 foot long Traditional stern style canal narrowboat with a standard 6ft 10” beam. Internally there is an impressive 6'-6" of head room, unlike most narrowboats. Constructed with a steel hull and superstructure built in 2004 by Mercia Marine to a 10/6/4 specification, with recent survey in February 2018 showing almost zero change. It was taken out of the water again in April 2020, an unofficial survey showed very similar results and so proceeded with blacking - 3 coats on the sides after stripping back to metal, and 2 on the bottom. Using 'Rytex', the best quality bitumen available. She has 10 magnesium sacrificial anodes spread equally around the hull sides.
It has not yet been surveyed for this sale but the survey we had done in 2018 can be forwarded to anyone who'd like to see it, with the details of the surveyor who carried it out should you wish to contact them.
She is powered by a four cylinder water-cooled Beta Marine 43hp diesel engine in sound condition showing about 550 hours.
Brand new mirror finish paint job carried out at the end of 2018 with no expense spared. The unique quality, design and name reflecting her powerful nature yet sunny deposition. Her attractive, well finished look is complimented by gongoozlers and fellow boaters often.
Brand new bow cratch cover (made by the well renowned Canvasman) complete with double zip doors and windows all around (with privacy covers) on either side and a solid wood / glass frame.
LPG over and 4 hobs with 2 x 13kg gas cylinders.

Stainless steel water tank under bow with additional storage.
Amazingly hot water from emersion tank, powered by 240v or diesel so works on the cut too. This is placed under the double bed so to avoid the under bed condensation many boats suffer from.
12 volt fridge with freezer compartment.
Lots of kitchen storage, work top space and lovely breakfast bar.
Kitchen hatch - starboard side, made of steel with wooden internal paneling. Great ventilator while cooking!
Diesel stove unit in living area - much cleaner and easier than solid fuel, also gives off less fumes and still boasts beautiful real flames. Can run all night and heat entire length of boat thanks to fan (included).
Central heating is supplied via the popular Eberspecher Hydronic to the 4 radiators.
The interior is constructed largely from real wood veneer faced ply with high quality solid wood moulding and is one of the finest examples I’ve seen. The ceiling is mainly made up of tongue and groove.
The hull is of welded mild steel construction and based on traditional tapered narrowboat lines, not the modern square style - this make it easy to manoeuvre as well as providing the effortlessly classy look you get from slick lines.
With a flat bottom base plate with an overhang to form a sacrificial wearing edge, single hard chine form to the mid-section, single curvature bow plates, single curvature aft swims with a rounded counter stern above.
The hull sides are strengthened by one full-length ‘D’ section steel rubbing strake at lower gunwale level, three quarter-length strakes around the bow plates and one quarter-length strakes around the counter stern. All of the ‘D’ section steel rubbing strakes are continuously welded along their upper edges.
The boat is currently moored at Willowtree Marina.
